Website Error Messages
If your website is displaying an error message, this article covers the most common issues and what steps to take. In most cases, our support team will need to investigate, but the information below will help you understand what is happening and what to include when you reach out.
"Error Establishing a Database Connection"
This is one of the most common WordPress errors. It means your website cannot communicate with its database, which stores all of your content, pages, posts, and settings.
What causes it:
This error is typically caused by a server-side issue and is not something you can fix from your WordPress dashboard. Common causes include database server overload, corrupted database tables, or a configuration issue on the hosting server.
What to do:
Contact our DBL Support team immediately, as this error means your website is completely down for visitors. When you reach out, please include:
1. Your domain name (e.g. www.yourdomain.com)
2. When you first noticed the error
3. Whether you made any recent changes to your website (installed a plugin, updated themes, etc.)
Our developers will investigate and work to restore your website as quickly as possible. This type of issue requires server-level access, so please do not attempt to reinstall WordPress or make database changes on your own.
"Account Suspended" or "This Site Has Been Suspended"
If your website shows a suspension message, this is usually related to a billing or subscription issue. Please see our article Why is my domain/website suspended? for more information.
Other Error Messages
If your website is displaying any other error (e.g. "500 Internal Server Error", "403 Forbidden", a blank white page, or any other unexpected message), please reach out to our support team with the following details:
1. The exact error message or a screenshot of what you see
2. Your domain name
3. When the error started
4. Whether the error appears on all pages or just specific ones
5. Any recent changes you made to your website
Our team will check the current status of your website and come back with a custom reply.
